If someone is not completely sure that engineering is right for them, but at that moment they really want to major in engineering, but he/she might change majors, should that person chose Harvard over MIT? I heard that ppl can attend Harvard and take classes at MIT?.. And does Harvard's engineering has anything over MIT's?

Hey all of you! I'm currenly a high school junior, and I'm really interested in the field of engineering (chemical and biomedical engineering to be exact) and I've always been interested in MIT, because, of course, MIT is only THE BEST engineering school out there lol. But I've come to the conclusion, that I shouldn't even bother applying, because MIT looks for well rounded students and all, and even though my grades are pretty decent, my SAT scores are over 700 in each section, and I'm Hispanic (affirmative action :]), I have absolutely NO extracurriculum (sp) activities...(there are kinda reasons for that, but lets not get into that..) So yeah, until a few days ago, I got a letter from the one and only...MIT!!!! the type of letter that you get after taking the PSAT and such, that got me really excited, because that kind of gave me some hope that there is still some hope that I'll actually get into a good school and such. lol. But yeah, this post was kinda point less, but I just had to get that out there. :)
Just wondering if you guys think that it's worth for me to apply there?
And also,
I've also received letters from Columbia University The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Penn Engineering, and Drexel.
(Honestly I don't think myself worthy of any of these schools)
And since you guys already been through the research and applying process for engineering, I wanted to know if you guys have any advice and opinions on good engineering schools. Since I have not started doing the research, all I have in my head are the basic stereotypes of good schools (like Ive Leagues)that's why I've only mentioned the names of schools that I've received letters from that I consider good. I have a stack of letters of colleges that I've never heard of in my life, and I'm afraid of throwing them out, and have one of them be from a good engineering school. My high school is currently in winter break, and such, but as soon as school starts I'm going to step up my research game and all lol.
Wow that was was long, lol thanks for reading :)

Kudos to whoever came up with the acceptance "letter" idea. The carboard tube kind of gave it away immediately.
Anyway, now that someone at MIT thinks I'm worthy to attend, I'm curious about how you all pay for it. How do you all deal with the price tag, besides financial aid? I know you all have finals and are leaving for a while, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

Hey, community! WAKE UP!

I got 24.00 Problems of Philosophy for my HASS-D and 6.A36 The Asking Animal for my advising seminar.

What did everyone get for their HASS-D and their advising seminar?

This is probably the lamest question ever, and I bet everyone else already knows the answer, but I'm stupid. What kind of calculator are we supposed to have for MIT? I used a TI-83+ in high school but I'm guessing I need something cooler and more expensive and more high-tech for college.

Im applying to MIT this November and I was wondering if I could ask you guys a few questions. I know MIT doesn't have much of a "type" of student that they look for, so I wanted to know what my chances are of getting in, judging from your experience (i really don't think my sat's etc are good enough.. should i retake them if i didnt prepare for the at all?). Its getting so close that I'm getting really worried! Any help would be great!

Read more...Collapse )

Any advice? any advantage to applying early action?

Subject:single double???

Dumb question: How do we know if we have a single or double?

My information does not list whether I have a roommate or not and so I am utterly lost.

Any help? please....

So...silly question. But is there a way to find out when all our vacations/breaks/long weekends are other than to scroll through the calendar day by day until we see it in the comments. AKA, is there a handy-dandy list somewhere? Not that I want to get away from MIT already. But people want to know.

So out of curiousity, where is everyone dorming? Are you happy with your dorm?

I'm in a coffin (wonder how small those are) single at McCormick.

Don't know when you all will find out how you're being advised but here's some info:

I posted a month or so ago saying that I would be associate advising for Irene Jenkins. Turns out she's not doing advising this year. So, instead I'll be advising with Prof. Thomas Herring who is also incredibly cool.

When you find out if you've been assigned to the GPS seminar tell me! I'm working on outings, info, and all kinds of stuff so the earlier you contact me the more awesome it will be.

Summary: I'm a sophomore who's gone through a little of everything, I live close to Prof. Herring's office and I cook, therefore I am available, experienced and I have free food :-)

Hope to hear from you,

I see that a lot of people are taking the FEE right now. But did anyone else take it last month? I got my results back and I am just as frustrated as I was when I wrote the stupid essays! Rather than saying "pass" or "fail" it says "CI-H or CI-HW", and the description is "You may take any CI-H or CI-HW subject during your first year at MIT". I don't know if that's good or bad...does anyone know what all the possible results are and how you can tell if you passed or failed?

Also, good luck to all of you who are taking it now! :)
